10 Questions Every Hospitality Buyer Should Ask Before Ordering a Custom Chandelier
Can You Build Our Design, and What Is the Minimum Order?
Yes, building from a render, hand sketch, CAD file or reference photo is standard practice for bespoke projects. A good factory confirms feasibility and proportions, scales the fixture to your exact ceiling height, matches finishes from a physical sample, and coordinates every public-area and guestroom light in one consistent design language so the property reads as a single, intentional scheme rather than a catalogue mix.
Minimum order depends on the type of work. For project commissions a one-off hero piece often carries an MOQ of one, because a hotel may need only a single statement chandelier or a small coordinated set, assessed by project value. The familiar 50 to 100 pieces per model applies to wholesale customization with custom finish, logo or packaging, and small pilot batches are usually available if you want to validate quality before a larger rollout.

How Long Does It Take, and How Is the Price Built?
Plan for four stages. Quotation and engineering review typically return within five working days; a 1:1 sample follows in seven to fifteen days and is the key checkpoint before you commit; bulk production runs twenty-five to forty-five days, longer for oversized lobby sculptures; then transit. Freeze dimensions, finishes, color temperature, dimming and weights before design freeze so the line does not slip and costly change orders are avoided.
A bespoke quote is built from materials, tooling for new molds, labor and finishing, with electrical parts and packaging itemized separately. Price moves with size, metal, glass type, LED specification and certification, and tiered trade pricing rewards larger or repeat orders. Always ask for freight to be stated as FOB, CIF or DDP in the same quote so landed cost stays transparent.

Which LEDs, Dimming and Voltage Should We Specify?
Guest-facing areas should standardize on warm 2700K to 3000K, warmer still in lounges at night, because mixing color temperatures across fixtures is the single most visible specification error in hospitality interiors. Require CRI 80 minimum and CRI 90 plus for food areas, insist on consistent LED binning, and specify replaceable modules rather than sealed fixtures so maintenance stays simple for the life of the property.
Dimming is decided at the quote stage because drivers must match the control system: TRIAC, 0-10V or DALI to suit the room and lobby. Warm-dim needs compatible drivers from the start, and voltage is configured per order, 110V to 240V or a wide-range 85-265V, so state every destination up front. Getting these declarations right early prevents flicker, compatibility failures and expensive retrofits later.

How Do You Prove Quality, Certification and Structural Safety?
Certifications are non-negotiable in commercial real estate. Expect CE and RoHS as the baseline for Europe, UL or ETL for North America, SAA or RCM for Australia and New Zealand, plus IP ratings for wet areas. Quality control should cover incoming inspection, pilot runs, aging tests and AQL sampling. A reputable factory photographs and films each fixture fully lit and accepts third-party inspection before shipment, giving you documented proof rather than a promise.
Large pieces weigh twenty to eighty kilograms, so weight and fixings must be confirmed before the ceiling structure is designed, never retrofitted afterward. Ask for structural calculations, a clearly marked ceiling point, rated hardware, and demountable strands or lift access for maintenance. In humid or coastal locations, plated stainless steel outlasts painted mild steel, protecting both safety and the long-term appearance of the installation.

How Is It Shipped, and Who Handles Installation?
Packing should use molded padding per component and plywood crating for large sculptures, with consolidated cartons so an entire fixture family arrives together. Confirm FOB, CIF or DDP terms, insurance, tracking, customs documents and any special freight up front. Spare crystals, droplets and LED modules should ship in the same consignment, because matching hand-finished parts later is imperfect and slows a reopen or repair.
Before bulk production, request a physical sample or mock-up and approve factory photo and video of your exact fixtures lit and assembled. Installation is typically carried out by the project's electrical contractor under the manufacturer's guidance, with installation support and a defined warranty. Plan maintenance access from the design stage, because a beautiful fixture that cannot be safely serviced becomes a liability once the opening crowds fade.
