Custom Hotel Chandeliers: 10 Questions Every Hospitality Buyer Should Ask Before Ordering
Commissioning a custom hotel chandelier is very different from buying a catalogue light, and the questions asked before ordering matter more than unit price. A hero piece can weigh tens of kilograms and hang for a decade. The same ten questions come up repeatedly from buyers, designers and contractors, answered here in plain commercial language.
Can You Build Our Design, and What Is the Minimum Order?
Q1: Can you manufacture from a render, sketch or reference photo? Yes, this is standard for bespoke projects. Factories work from renders, sketches, CAD or photos, confirm feasibility and proportions, scale to ceiling height, match finishes from a physical sample, and coordinate all public and guestroom fixtures in one design language.
Q2: What is the MOQ? For project work, a one-off hero piece often has an MOQ of one, because hotels may need a single statement fixture or small set, assessed by project value. The familiar 50 to 100 pieces per model applies to wholesale customization with custom finish, logo or packaging; small pilot batches are also available.

How Long Does It Take, and How Is the Price Built?
Q3: What lead time should we plan? Four stages: quotation and engineering review within five working days; a 1:1 sample in seven to fifteen days, the key checkpoint; bulk production in 25 to 45 days, longer for oversized lobby sculptures; then transit. Freeze dimensions, finishes, color temperature, dimming and weights before design freeze.
Q4: How is a bespoke chandelier priced? Quotes build from materials, tooling for new molds, labor and finishing, with electrical parts and packaging itemized. Price moves with size, metal, glass type, LED specification and certification; tiered trade pricing rewards larger or repeat orders, and freight should be stated as FOB, CIF or DDP in the same quote.

Which LEDs, Dimming and Voltage Should We Specify?
Q5: What color temperature, CRI and light source do hotels need? Guest-facing areas standardize on warm 2700K to 3000K, warmer in lounges at night; mixing color temperatures is the most visible hospitality spec error. Require CRI 80 minimum, CRI 90+ for food areas, consistent LED binning, and replaceable modules rather than sealed fixtures.
Q6: Which dimming protocol and voltage do we declare, and when? Dimming is decided at quote stage because drivers must match the controls: TRIAC, 0-10V or DALI to match the room and lobby control system. Warm-dim needs compatible drivers from the start; voltage is configured per order, 110V to 240V or wide-range 85-265V, so state every destination up front.

How Do You Prove Quality, Certification and Structural Safety?
Q7: What QC and certifications should the factory provide? CE and RoHS are the baseline for Europe, UL or ETL for North America, SAA or RCM for Australia and New Zealand, plus IP ratings for wet areas. QC should cover incoming inspection, pilot runs, aging tests and AQL sampling; good factories photo and video each fixture fully lit and accept third-party inspection.
Q8: How is a heavy chandelier mounted and maintained safely? Large pieces weigh 20 to 80 kilograms, so weight and fixings must be confirmed before the ceiling structure is designed, not retrofitted. Ask for structural calculations, a marked ceiling point, rated hardware and demountable strands or lift access for maintenance; in humid areas, plated stainless steel outlasts painted mild steel.

How Is It Shipped, and Who Handles Installation?
Q9: How is a large or fragile chandelier packed and shipped? Expect molded padding per component, plywood crating for large sculptures, and consolidated cartons so families arrive together. Confirm FOB, CIF or DDP terms, insurance, tracking, customs documents and special freight. Spare crystals, droplets and LED modules should ship in the same consignment, as matching hand-finished parts later is imperfect.
Q10: Do you support installation, and what warranty applies? Factories rarely install overseas, but supply mounting hardware, instructions, drawings and remote guidance for the electrician. Confirm the warranty, typically two to three years, the transit-damage policy, and spare-part and replacement-LED supply over the fixture's life, keeping the bespoke chandelier predictable rather than a risk.

These ten questions decide whether a custom chandelier arrives on time, passes acceptance and lasts a decade: design and MOQ, schedules, costing, dimmable LEDs and voltage, certified QC and engineered mounting, and export crating with installation support. Send floor plans, ceiling heights, renders and the destination market with the first enquiry for a complete proposal.
