From Sketch to Shine: How a Bespoke Chandelier Is Built in Our Zhongshan Factory (2026)

Most hotel chandeliers you see in photos look effortless. Behind every showpiece is weeks of handwork — sketches, welding, polishing, crystal stringing, and hours of testing. At R&C Deco Lighting, a custom chandelier is never taken off a shelf. It is engineered and built from scratch, piece by piece, in our 30,000 m² factory in Zhongshan — the World Lighting Capital.

In this article, we walk you through the six steps that turn a designer's sketch into a finished hotel or villa chandelier ready for installation.

Step 1 — Design & Engineering: From Concept to 3D Render

Every bespoke project begins on paper (and on screen). Our design team studies your space — ceiling height, room size, style, color palette and lighting levels — then produces detailed drawings and a photorealistic 3D render.

If you already have blueprints, we work from them. If not, we create the design from scratch. At this stage we also decide on structure and weight: total fixture weight, weight distribution, frame strength, suspension points and the canopy structure. Nothing moves to the workshop until the render and dimensions are fully approved by you.

Step 2 — Metal Frame Fabrication: Cutting, Bending and Welding

Once the design is signed off, the metal frame begins. Using brass, stainless steel or iron, our craftsmen cut, bend, spin and weld every tubular and decorative element by hand.

This is where character is born. Skilled welders join the arms, rings and central body; the frame must be both structurally rigid and visually graceful. In our workshop, this is done under the eye of a production manager who checks alignment every day.

Step 3 — Surface Finishing: Polishing, Plating and Color

A chandelier is only as good as its finish. After welding, every metal part goes through grinding and multi-stage polishing until the surface is perfectly smooth.

Then comes electroplating or hand-finishing: brushed gold, polished chrome, titanium black, antique bronze or a custom tone matched to your interior. Premium options include solid brass and natural onyx inlays, chosen to catch light in exactly the way your space needs.

Step 4 — Crystal and Glass Assembly

Now the fixture starts to glow. Hand-cut crystal beads, prisms and glass droplets are strung onto the frame one by one, following the approved layout.

For crystal chandeliers, each piece is placed according to the design drawing. Glass components are handled by specialized artisans. This stage is slow and deliberate — a single misaligned crystal changes the whole pattern of light on the wall and ceiling.

Step 5 — Electrical Integration and Full Lighting Test

Electrical work is done by certified electricians: LED strips or bulbs are installed, wiring completed, and dimming or smart-control systems integrated exactly as specified.

Then every finished chandelier is hung and lit for a full test — often for 24 hours or more. We check every lamp holder, every connection and the warm-dimming transition (for example 3000K smoothly dropping to 1800K). Nothing ships unless it passes.

Step 6 — Mock-up, Inspection and Export Packing

Before packing, the complete fixture is hung to confirm it matches the approved render and that the light output looks right. You are welcome to visit our factory and inspect in person; if you cannot, we can arrange delivery with cash-on-inspection protection.

Finally, each piece is packed in export-grade packaging — foam, plywood and cartons — built to survive long-distance sea freight to hotels and villas around the world.
